FAQ

Questions about Speakeater.

Everything people have asked so far. If yours isn't here, email [email protected], I read every one.

What is Speakeater?
Speakeater is the cooking app that reads your fridge. Photograph your shelves and the app extracts every ingredient, then ranks tonight's recipes by what you actually have. About 28,000 recipes plus nearly 4,000 cocktails, vintage and modern.
When does Speakeater launch?
Public launch on Google Play is June 10, 2026. iOS follows about 60 days after. Internal testing is open right now to anyone with the opt-in link.
Is Speakeater free?
Free is $0 forever. It includes 20 recipe swipes a day, 5 fridge-photo scans lifetime, the full pantry, the shopping list, the weekly plan, the Library where you build your own cookbooks, cook mode with screen wake lock, and the cocktail bar. Pro is $4.99/month, $29.99/year, or $59.99 once for lifetime. Pro adds unlimited swipes, 10 fridge scans per week, 20 TikTok or YouTube link imports per day, Photo-to-Recipe, recipe submissions, shareable cookbooks, and removes ads.
How does the photo-your-fridge scan work?
Take some photos of your fridge or pantry. Speakeater extracts the ingredients and ranks recipes by what you can make tonight. The photo itself is deleted from our servers in 24 hours, we keep the ingredient list, not the image. Free tier gets 5 of these scans, lifetime, so you can feel how it works. Pro gets 10 per rolling 7-day window.
What platforms does Speakeater support?
Android first, launching June 10, 2026 on Google Play. iOS follows in late summer 2026. No web app planned for the initial launch. Built native in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for Android, with a SwiftUI port planned for iOS.
How is Speakeater different from SuperCook or Cooklist?
Three things. First, Speakeater uses a photo of your fridge as the input, no typing checklists or syncing grocery loyalty programs. Second, the cocktail bar has nearly 4,000 drinks across vintage and modern, no other cooking app spans both food and a real bar. Third, you can paste a TikTok or YouTube link and get the recipe out of it, or take some photos of a cookbook page and get a structured recipe back. See Speakeater vs SuperCook and Speakeater vs Cooklist for full breakdowns.
Can I import recipes from TikTok and YouTube?
Yes. Hit Share inside TikTok or YouTube and pick Speakeater, the recipe lands in your Library. Or paste the URL directly into the import screen. We pull the description, the captions, anywhere the creator wrote the recipe down. Pro feature, 20 imports per day.
Can I build my own cookbooks?
Yes. The Library has three levels: Library, then Books, then Chapters, then Recipes. Two starter Books, Saved and My Recipes, are there from day one. Build as many as you want, organize them however you want, and share any Book by sending a link. The shared link opens in any browser, no app required for the reader.
Does Speakeater have cocktail recipes?
Yes. The cocktail bar has nearly 4,000 drinks. Bootlegger view shows the classics presented straight, no rewrite, no editor pass. Mixologist view shows the modern craft scene with measurements and glassware. Bar-shelf scan reads what bottles you have. Spirited or Zero-Proof filter for nights off.
Does Speakeater work offline?
Cook mode runs offline once the recipe is on screen, including timers and the wake lock. Saved recipes cache locally. The fridge-photo scan and the link import need a network connection because they call our backend.
What data does Speakeater collect?
Account email, anonymous user ID, app interaction events (saves, cooks, swipes), optional review photos, and crash diagnostics. Speakeater does not collect your name, phone, contacts, calendar, SMS, microphone, location, or any files outside of voluntary review submissions. Full details on the Privacy page.
How do I delete my account?
Visit speakeater.com/delete-account.html and submit the form, or email [email protected]. Account deletion removes all account data within 30 days, including pantry, ratings, library, and any uploaded photos.
Who builds Speakeater?
Speakeater is a solo project by Kyle S., built in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with a Cloudflare Workers backend. Bootstrapped, no investors, no VC. Direct contact at [email protected]. See the press kit for more.
