Terms of Service
The deal between you and us. Plain English.
Last updated: May 3, 2026 · Effective at first launch (June 10, 2026)
1. Who we are
Speakeater is an Android cooking app made by Kyle Schulgen, a solo developer in Huntsville, Alabama. Reach us at [email protected]. Throughout these terms, "Speakeater," "we," and "us" refer to that operation. "You" is anyone using the app or this website.
2. What you can do
You can install Speakeater from Google Play, sign in with Google, photograph your kitchen, save recipes, build cookbooks, and share unlocked cookbooks with friends. The free tier is free forever; Speakeater Pro is a paid subscription billed by Google Play.
You may not: scrape our recipe corpus, reverse-engineer our backend, abuse our APIs to enumerate other users' content, or use Speakeater to do anything illegal in your jurisdiction. We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that do.
3. Your content
Pantry photos, recipe submissions, reviews, and notes are yours. By posting them in the app you grant Speakeater a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display them inside Speakeater (and, where you opt in, to other users). You can delete your content any time via the in-app deletion flow or /delete-account.html. Wipe completes within 30 days, as documented in the privacy policy.
4. Our content
The recipe corpus, the Pre-Prohibition Codex, app code, design system, brand, and the hand-transcribed manuscript material are owned by Speakeater. The original 1862-1917 source manuscripts are public domain; our transcriptions, annotations, and the editorial selection are not. You may quote a few recipes for personal or editorial use with attribution; you may not bulk-copy, redistribute, or train models on the corpus without written permission.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Speakeater Pro is sold via Google Play. Pricing, billing, refunds, and cancellation follow Google Play's standard terms. We don't store your payment details. Google does. To cancel a subscription, use the Subscriptions section of the Play Store app on the device you bought it on.
One-time purchases (Mystery Nights, Party Menus, image scan top-ups) are tied to your Google Play account and survive uninstall. They do not survive intentional account deletion (deletion wipes the entitlement record per the privacy policy).
6. Cocktails, alcohol, and adulthood
Speakeater displays cocktail recipes as historical and culinary content. The app age-gates the cocktail catalog at first launch. You assert that you are of legal drinking age in your jurisdiction when you pass that gate. We don't verify ID; we trust you.
7. Disclaimers
Speakeater is provided "as-is." Recipes are sourced from third-party data partners and historical manuscripts. We don't guarantee that any recipe is allergen-safe, dietary-compliant, or correctly transcribed for your kitchen. Read ingredient lists. Use your own judgment. If you have a serious allergy, consult the original source.
Speakeater is not a medical, dietary, or nutritional service. The pantry-match score is a culinary suggestion, not a health recommendation.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Speakeater's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months (which for free users is $0). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Lost time, lost data, missed dinners, etc.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in-app or on this page at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the update.
10. Governing law & contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, USA. Disputes go to the state and federal courts of Madison County, Alabama. Questions: [email protected].
